The purpose of this website is to chronical the travels of Carl McPherson and his lovely wife and daughter over the next year or two while Carl is working as a contractor for the United States Army while in Iraq.  Every four months the family will have time together during Carl's schedule R&R and this website will be used to help family and friends feel a part of the excitement as I update this site with information, pictures and fun things that happen along the way.

 

Being so far away from my wife and daughter is everything you'd expect; lonely and taxing on your mental well-being.  Some days slip past swiftly and drifts into the next while some seem to drag on and it seems the only thing I am thinking of is my wife and daughter and each minute feels like three hours.  Thus far I haven't been able to predict how my mood will fall on a given day.  Mostly though I wake up positive and move into my day in a good mood and resist so many things which attempt to drag me into the ditch with all the people around me.  But on occassion something snaps and it gets very depressing and troubling.  Thankfully, under my current work environment I have an internet connection and a telephone so I can feel a great deal more connected with my family than I otherwise would have the opporunity for.

 

This opportunity here in Iraq is an amazing chance for my family.  Though we are apart and it has it's downside I have to keep reminding myself of the economy in Michigan and I realize that I need to just suck it up and do what I need to do to take care of my family.  If it means going into a war zone, it's still safer than the employment war in Michigan.

 

So, overall life is fantastic! This website will concentrate on the great times planned ahead and log the amazing vacations we are sharing together over this time.
